Fear is a real understatement, it comes from within, it arises from a broken and demoralized soul. Technically speaking, amygdala, a part of the brain, is answerable for emotions like fear and worry. Say, for instance, if a person lacks amygdala, then he won’t feel emotions like fear. One would possibly long to feel fearless, especially if you are a practicing surgeon choked with fears. Usually, patients suffer from a condition called, ‘white coat hypertension’, but the doctors don’t. They are the dauntless warriors in the field of medicine, in the field of life. They’re the knights in shining amours pervading the planet earth according to us, but they are as apprehensive as the laymen. Therefore, here’s a string of fears that frightens the doctors.
Misdiagnosis or medical errors which can cause harm to their patients. It presumptively reflects their education. And, wrong knowledge leads to a wrong diagnosis of the situation and culminating into breaching of the Hippocratic oath.
ACCUSED BY ATTORNEYS:
Fear of getting sued by patients can mainly happen in the case of plastic surgeons wherein something else abruptly turns up. Patients sue doctors for misdiagnosis notably of cancers and heart attacks, others being adverse drug reactions, over-treating patients by ordering for tests which aren’t needed, and unexplained deaths.
Fear of not knowing what to do next, how to go about with the case. Getting worried about whether or not a treatment will work, and getting sued is always on the back of their minds. We think doctors know everything, but they don’t. They always have to think twice before administering a drug. Additionally, they fear not being taken seriously by their peers.
AFFLICTED BY INFECTION:
Their peers or themselves falling sick, catching diagnosed diseases, falling really ill and not being able to practice. They fear diseases the most. They’re in constant touch with infection and they’re the most susceptible individuals.
THEIR OWN MINDSET:
Think negatively for each scenario they face. They see what’s wrong with the patient, and not what’s right. The flip side of the coin, the negative air of the atmosphere, and the wrong aspect of everything. They begin to think negatively and complicate simple things. It’s their biggest worry of losing their own sane mindset amidst curing insane mindsets.
Loss of a loved one or one of their close patients. It’s one of the most burdensome problems of a doctor’s life to tell their patient that they’re going to die. Studying medicine doesn’t make you a superhuman, you can only do what’s under your control, rest everything is up to fate. They have no choice when death comes knocking.
BEING QUESTIONED ABRUPTLY:
Being asked a random question about medicine that they have no clue about in public. Laymen perceive doctors as smarty pants, wise people and ask questions to a Cardiologist about colon cancer and a Gastroenteritis about heart attacks. Doctors will answer questions based on their knowledge.
