Science and technology are advancing at a fast pace and inventions and innovations are making lives of the people easier day by day. 2016 has been a great year in healthcare technology advancements. Here is a list of a few most amazing innovations in the field of healthcare technology:
- The Tricorder
Almost none of our generation is unfamiliar with legendary futuristic Hollywood film Star Trek. In this movie, a handheld device was used to detect, collect, scan and analyze data which was called tricorder. The tricorder used medically was used to diagnose the illness-related information and data about patient’s body. Qualcomm is organizing a contest called Xprize in which seven teams have been working on to make that tricorder, and the winning amount is $10 million.
- Health Systems
In 2016, one of the most important advancements was interoperability solutions for exchanging data and statistics about a patient to different healthcare settings. Hospitals have been losing a major portion of their budget due to referral leakage. Appropriate usage of interoperability solutions will bring change and reforms in healthcare systems.
- Robots as Nurse Assistants
Robots have already been used in healthcare systems to help healthcare providers with better provision of facilities. Nurses have been reporting injuries while moving a patient from bed to wheelchair or falling due to an emergency situation and other problems. Robot for Interactive Body Assistance (RIBA) can be used for lifting the patient and moving them in a wheelchair. Another company named HAL is also making robots to assist the workers moving the patients.
- Artificial Retinas
According to an estimate, around 1.1 million people in the United States are legally blind. This huge number of legally blind people has encouraged the scientists to develop a solution for this problems, and a company named Nano Retina came up with a solution. A Nano Retina device has been invented with the name of NR600 which is consisted of two parts, a chip which is to be implanted and eyeglasses.
- Advancements in Prosthetics
A person can eat healthily, do exercise, never do drug and they still have a good chance of getting into an accident and losing a part of his/her body. A person’s extremities are the most lost organ during an accident or war. Prosthetics have been there for the past a few decades; however, companies have been trying to develop artificial limbs which are controlled by neurons. This idea is mainly for the amputee soldiers so they can go back to their duties. Developments in this program will lead to help a broader range of people with medical amputations, injuries, and neural problems.
- Anti-Aging Drugs
Not to age has been a dream for many people since ages. It is good news for them who are trying to live longer that with the help of anti-aging drugs the people will live more than average (around 120 years). A few of the drugs have already been to have effects of stop aging or at least slow the aging process. If scientists are successful in creating anti-aging drugs people will be as healthy in their 70s as they are now in their 50s.
